Tarves Primary School serves the children of the village and the surrounding area, and is situated some 16 miles from the City of Aberdeen and seven miles from Ellon. The School's catchment area is quite extensive and children from the outlying areas are transported by bus to and from school. The village, with its traditional buildings, has seen three main housing estates built around it. The most recent of these estates being just recently developed. The school building itself dates from 1911 and has been enlarged at some point in time. It has served as a junior secondary/primary School until 1979, when secondary teaching was transferred to Ellon. The accommodation consists of a central hall, which is used as a dining and activity area. From this area there is access to six classrooms, a staff room/resource base, and the headteacher's office. An additional classroom is situated on a lower level next to the library/television room. The school office is also situated in this west wing of the school. Behind the school, and facing south, the school has its own football pitch and an all-weather surface which is shared with the community. The children have their physical education lessons in the Melvin Hall, situated some 150 yards from the school. The schoo aims to develop in each child the talents, abilities and interests which he or she has shown in the school. .
