Background:

Founded in 1834 when local parish school merged with grammar school (which was originally founded in 1639); main building constructed on original site in 1932; several extensions subsequently, including addition of nursery unit in 1995. Catchment area includes Valleys of the Evan, the Annan, and the town of Moffat. School views learning as 'a skill for life'; aims to 'encourage pupils to become increasingly responsible for their own learning'. Participation in extra-curricular activities encouraged; available both in and out of school hours, including netball, football, basketball, golf, short tennis, recorder and other music. Tuition in violin, cello, brass, woodwind instruments and guitar available during school hours. Annual events include school production, school concert, Burns competition, and sports day. Primary 6 pupils have opportunity to participate in week-long educational trip, which this year was to London. Shorter outings arranged to local places of interest, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
