Background:

Inverurie Market Place Primary School was founded in 1895, and is accommodated in a traditional Victorian school building with nine classrooms. Facilities include a games hall, a dining room/general purpose room and a kitchen. Outside there is a large walled playground, adjacent to which is a playing field which has a small football pitch. The school is located in the centre of Inverurie, just off the Market Place. The school has a strong tradition in music, especially violin and recorder tuition. Sporting strengths include many cross country first place prizes, and being winners at the 1999 inter-schools swimming gala. There are also football clubs, a basketball team, a badminton club, a social dancing club, the inter-school quiz team and a drama club. The school has established good community links through the day care centre, homes for the elderly and the local churches. There is a very active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) which organises fund raising and social events throughout the year. Pupils are encouraged to raise funds for charities and every year one major charity is supported, in 1999 this was Help the Aged. There is also a 20 place nursery school every morning. The school aims to provide a secure, supportive and stimulating environment, promoting achievement for all.
